The Easter Rising took place in Dublin, and a few outposts across the country, during Easter Week 1916. The Rising, which began on Easter Monday, was mounted by Irish republicans to end British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic while the United Kingdom was heavily engaged in World War I.
All of those arrested were taken to Richmond Barracks for processing. The courts-martial that condemned the leaders of the Rising to death were also held at the Barracks in the gymnasium building.
