‘Flames not Flowers’ is a performance art project, by women of the Family Resource Centre in St. Michael’s Estate (beside Richmond Barracks) and Inchicore.

“Flames Not Flowers” performed at the state ceremonial  event on the 8th of March, International Women’s Day 2016, to commemorate the women of the Easter Rising. They also performed throughout the streets of Dublin City on Easter Monday 2016 as part of Reflecting the Rising.

The performance is a re-enactment of the defiant spirit of the  hundreds of women who participated in the Rising, in particular the 77 women volunteers,  who were arrested after the Rising and  taken to Richmond Barracks. Their form of resistance was to sing in unison as they marched from each of their garrisons.
