In this online talk, historian Donal Fallon explores the background of the build up to Ireland’s War of Independence in Ireland. From the aftermath of the Easter Rising in the gymnasium of Richmond Barracks, to the trenches of the First World War, and the election of 1918, Donal draws on various sources to paint a picture of the mood in Ireland at the time, and the factors that led to unrest and conflict in the early 20th century.
Donal Fallon is a historian and author based in Dublin. His publications include a biography of Major John Mac Bride (O’Brien Press) and a history of Nelson’s Pillar (New Island Books). He presents the Three Castles Burning podcast.
