Time: 15:00 — 17:00
Join us as we celebrate the launch of two creative Dublin 8 projects; ‘Illuminations’, the first anthology of writing from the Richmond Barracks Writers Group; and 'Home Truths', a graphic short story based on engagement with residents at the Croft and Hollybrook Lodge nursing homes in Inchicore, with illustrator and author Alan Dunne.
Illuminations is the culmination of work by 11 writers from the Richmond Barracks Writers Group. Developed from initial taster workshops in Richmond Barracks in 2020, facilitated by poet Enda Wyley, the group have honed their craft through regular self-directed meet-ups and continued guidance from Enda, along with a range of other writers. With pieces of poetry and prose there is an eclectic mix of new writing to enjoy throughout ‘Illuminations’.
Home Truths is a graphic short storybook based on ongoing engagement with residents at The Croft and Hollybrook Lodge care homes, where the residents shared memories of their childhoods, their life experiences and the challenges they face with Covid-19 -poignant stories brimming with humour, tragedy, and hope. Home Truths was initially developed in 2020, as a large outdoor projection as part of Dublin City Council Culture Company’s creative engagement programme for Winter Lights, a Dublin City Council event.
This special launch event is a celebration of the stories, connections and creativity of these two Dublin 8 projects, made primarily during lockdown at a time when cultural projects presented many challenges, but mattered all the more. Both are testament to the creativity and resilience in the Dublin 8 community and beyond.
The launch will feature a number of readings, a guest musical performance and refreshments. Limited copies of Illuminations will be available for sale, and the proceeds will be used by the writers’ group to fund their continued development.
There is no need to book a place for this event, all are welcome to drop in and join the fun!
