Richmond Barracks

Culture Date with Dublin 8

Once again, we're excited to be part of this year's Culture Date with Dublin 8 festival.

The festival runs from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 May and has over 100 specially curated events including talks, walks, family activities, markets, exhibitions, performances, concerts and much more.

Culture Date with Dublin 8 is a neighbourhood initiative that celebrates Dublin 8’s rich cultural, historical and architectural heritage while encouraging people living, working and visiting the area to explore what is on their doorstep.

The following workshops at Richmond Barracks are part of the Culture Date with Dublin 8 line-up this year:

Detox Your Home

Saturday 10 May, 11.30 am to 1 pm

Our kitchens, bathrooms, laundry and gardens are filled with products that clean, fragrance, sterilise, fertilise and more. Have you ever wondered what effect they have on you and the environment?

Join facilitator Gobnait Ní Néill to learn to spot some of the common ways our homes can be detrimental to our environment and find out what you can do about it. This can include easy ways you can swap to more environmental alternatives or even make your own. You will also learn how to make your own citrus household cleaner to bring home.

All materials will be provided.

This workshop is for adults. Anyone aged 16 or over is welcome. We will ask parents/guardians of 16 and 17 year olds to fill in a permission form before the workshop.

Sustainable Saturdays: Reuse and Repair Social

Saturday 10 May, 2 pm to 3.30 pm

Upcycle your old clothes into new treasures! Use your creativity to keep textiles out of landfill, chat and meet new people. The workshop on 10 May will show you how to add a pocket to your clothes. It is for all ages.

Our monthly clothes upcycling workshop is led by Change Clothes, a community based clothing reuse hub. These workshops are family friendly, children should be accompanied by an adult.

Upcoming Sustainable Saturdays at Richmond Barracks:

  • On 10 May you can learn how to add a pocket to your clothes.
  • On 14 June you can learn to make festival head wear.
  • On 9 August you can learn to make lunch bags for back to school.
