Once again, we're excited to be part of this year's Culture Date with Dublin 8.
Culture Date with Dublin 8 runs from Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 May, we have historical walks, workshops, and even a teddy bear picnic planned for you. All we need now is to hope for good weather!
Throughout the five days, the vibrant Dublin 8 area will be teeming with over 80 thoughtfully selected events. These include walks, talks and tours, markets, performances, and much more.
Culture Date with Dublin 8 is a neighbourhood initiative that celebrates Dublin 8’s rich cultural, historical and architectural heritage while encouraging people living, working and visiting the area to explore what is on their doorstep.
Here's our complete line-up:
Saturday and Sunday, 11 and 12 May, from 10 am to 5 pm
The Irish Model Soldier Society will hold a two-day exhibition of scale models. The exhibition will display model aircraft, tanks, ships, buildings, and figures from all ages, as well as from the Warhammer world and other science fiction and fantasy areas.
The cost is €3 per person and €5 per family at the door for weekend admission. Under 16s must be accompanied by a guardian
All are welcome.
Saturday, 11 May, from 12 to 1 pm, for children aged 9 - 12
Do you have a favourite part of Inchicore? Do you know any stories about its history? Join Dublin’s Historian in Residence for Children, Dervilia Roche, for this free, interactive workshop at Richmond Barracks for children aged 9 - 12.
Step back in time as we trace the history of Inchicore and surrounding areas. Help us learn more about the area by telling us about your favourite Inchicore places, buildings, or stories. Where would you take someone if you wanted to show them the best bits of Inchicore or its history?
If you are new to Inchicore or just visiting for the day, you are welcome too! Tell us about your local area and see if you can spot similarities or differences.
A parent or guardian should accompany children.

Saturday, 11 May, from 12 to 2 pm
Join us for a picnic on Saturday the 11th of May from 12 to 2 pm. Bring your sambos and picnic blanket and chill out in the beautiful surroundings of the Richmond Barracks garden.
We’ll start at 12 pm with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic (make sure to bring your teddy!) Then afterwards we will be playing some games and relaxing on the grass.
Happy Out Coffee and The Crepe Escape will be onsite if you forget to bring your picnic.
No booking is required, but please note that the picnic is weather-dependent and won't take place if it is raining.

The trials that preceded the executions of the 1916 leaders were an important moment in the history of Richmond Barracks.
Join our tour guide to commemorate the life of the leaders of the Easter Rising: Patrick Pearse, Thomas Clarke, Thomas MacDonagh, Joseph Plunkett, Edward Daly, Michael O'Hanrahan, Willie Pearse, John MacBride, Éamonn Ceannt, Michael Mallin, Seán Heuston, Con Colbert, Seán Mac Diarmada and James Connolly.
Walk in the footsteps of the 1916 leaders as they went to their deaths in Kilmainham Gaol following a cursory court-martial at Richmond Barracks. Along the way, you will hear of local poets and poetry. Learn about the police and military riot on Emmet Road during the 1913 lock-out and how six young lads from Inchicore fought for democracy in the Spanish Civil War. You will hear of the malevolent doings of the Sham Squire and how ‘Carey told on Skin the Goat’.
The tour concludes at Ronan Gillespie’s evocative sculpture commemorating those executed in Stonebreakers' Yard.
Each tour lasts approximately one hour and 15 minutes. The tour begins at Richmond Barracks and ends at Inchicore Road, opposite Kilmainham Gaol. Please note that this tour does not include a visit inside Kilmainham Gaol.
