Our Mondays at the Mess talk ‘Dublin Graveyards’ with Pat Garry is now available to watch.
From Glasnevin to Goldenbridge, tour guide Pat Garry takes us through the rich history of Dublin's graveyards and cemeteries; how they developed over the years, their political, social and religious impact and the battle against body snatchers.
In this talk, Pat will also tell the stories of some of the men, women and children buried in Goldenbridge Garden Cemetery, Ireland's first non denominational cemetery. People from all walks of life, young and old, rich and poor who now share a common resting place.
Pat Garry is a guide with Dublin City Council Culture Company working at 14 Henrietta Street and Richmond Barracks giving tours of the buildings and Goldenbridge Cemetery. He was born, raised, and spent most of his working life in the Liberties area. He was a chairman of the Liberties Festival and the South Inner City Development Committee. He has been a tour guide for over forty years and is presently developing a number of tours of the North Inner City.
Mondays at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present.
