Introduction to Oil Painting (adults and ages 15+)
Discover the basic techniques of oil painting. Join artist Ailbhe Barrett to learn about composition, tone and colour mixing. Explore different ways to use your brush to get different effects. Learn about techniques such as under-painting and the subsequent building up of the painting. Each week will cover different techniques so you can book to come to one workshop or as many as you like.

Talk at the Mess: Clubs and Pubs of Inchicore's Emmet Road with Liam O'Meara (all ages)
Talks at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present.
This talk is suitable for all ages. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Exploring Crochet (adults and ages 15+)
Learn how to crochet and explore crochet as a decorative and sculptural artform. Join Artist in Residence Niki Collier to learn basic and more advanced crochet stitches and create your own crochet pieces and artworks. Each week will focus on a different crochet project through which you will learn different techniques. These workshops are suitable for beginners and more experienced crocheters.

Chime in and Play: Music and Movement (ages 18 months to 5)
Chime in and Play is a weekly music and movement workshop for children and their grown ups. Join Artist in Residence Shane McGrath to explore different music styles, and to play, sing and move!
These workshops are suitable for children aged 18 months to 5. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fridays 6 November to 11 December, 3 pm; duration 1 hour; free
The Moving Choir (adults and ages 15+)
The Moving Choir is a series of singing and movement workshops. Join Artists in Residence Michael McCartan and Mia DiChiaro on a creative journey that connects voice, body, and rhythm. Together we will explore global rituals, music, dance, developing community and connection.
No prior experience is needed, just an interest in trying out movement and singing. You can come to one workshop or as many as you like.

Make Upcycled Gifts (adults and ages 12+)
This festive season are you looking to save money on gifts or want to make something special for someone you love? Join facilitators from the textile reuse hub Change Clothes to learn to make unique gifts and seasonal decorations from repurposed fabrics. Each week will focus on making something different so you can book to come to one workshop or as many as you like.
This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Writers Circle (adults and ages 15+)
The Writers Circle is for anyone who has taken part in previous creative writing workshops in the Culture Connects programme. Facilitated by Artist in Residence Trudie Gorman, the Writers Circle is a monthly meet-up that encourages people to continue writing and sharing their work. Get feedback and encouragement for your writing and connect with others through a shared interest.
To suit different schedules the Writers Circle will alternate between Wednesday mornings and Wednesday evenings each month.

Detox Your Home (adults and ages 15+)
Learn how you can detox your home from harmful chemicals. Join facilitator Gobnait Ní Néill to learn to spot some of the common ways our homes can be detrimental to our environment and find out ways you can swap to more environmental alternatives or make your own from easily available ingredients.

Improving Your Soil (adults and ages 15+)
Healthy soil is important not only for plants and trees but also for insects, animals, and biodiversity. These practical workshops, facilitated by Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams, will teach you about the different ways you can naturally improve soil while supporting nature and the environment. No gardening experience is necessary.

A History of the Dublin Garden (all ages)
Learn about the history of gardens and gardening in Dublin. Join Historian in Residence Katie Blackwood and Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams for a talk about gardening, told through the stories of different plants and how they relate to our history. The talk will include an examination of ideas and attitudes that impacted Dublin gardens from the 1800s to the present day. It will feature Victorian-era gardens, back gardens in the suburbs of the 1930s and 40s, community gardens and allotments.
This talk is suitable for all ages. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday Craft Social (adults and ages 8+)
Try out textile-based crafts and work on your own projects. Facilitated by Artist in Residence Niki Collier, this informal craft session is aimed at those who want to get together, make things and be creative. Whether you are trying to finish an old project, start a new one or just want to try out something new, this is for you. All levels of experience are welcome.
This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged 8+. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Children's History Workshop: The First World War (ages 9 to 12)
Join Dublin's Historian in Residence for Children Lorcan McEvoy to explore the history of the First World War. Why did it begin? How was Ireland involved? How did the war affect children? Find out and create your own zines and poetry about the First World War.
This workshop is suitable for children aged 9 to 12. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Online Book Club - Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth (adults and ages 15+)
The Culture Connects online book club meets via Zoom on the last Thursday of the month. We talk about the month’s book, swap book recommendations and have a chat. Books we read and discuss together include both fiction and non-fiction by Irish and international authors.
Thursday 26 November, 8 pm; duration 1 hour; free
We want to open up ways for people to experiment with all kinds of culture. Culture Connects is our year-round programme that invites people in Dublin to try out new things. We offer ways for people to make and create together, to share ideas and connect through culture and conversation.
