Children's Workshop: Magical May Bushes (ages 6+)
Join Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams and children's history facilitator Claire Hennessy for this interactive family workshop. In many parts of Ireland, it was traditional at the start of May to decorate a bush with ribbons, egg shells and flowers. Make your very own magical May bush and learn about the history and folklore of Bealtaine. This workshop is suitable for children aged 6+. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Talk at the Mess: The 1926 Census in the Irish Free State (all ages)
Talks at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present. Join historian Caitlin White for a talk about the 1926 Census. The 1926 Census offers us a look into Ireland 100 years ago. Caitlin will discuss the background of the census, how it has been digitised, and how the 1926 census helps us to understand the early years of the Irish Free State.

Little Crafters (ages 1 to 5)
Join us for a weekly themed craft session for children and their grown ups. Led by crafter and educator Lisa O’Connor, each week we will explore new materials and get creative together. Each workshop will have different activities for both children and adults to take part in together. This includes a messy play activity, so wearing less-loved clothes is advised!

Introduction to Eco-Gardening (adults and ages 15+)
Learn how to garden in an environmentally conscious way. Join Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams for hands-on gardening workshops that include topics like planning an environmentally-friendly garden, improving your soil, taking cuttings and supporting biodiversity.
Takes place on Wednesdays 6 to 27 May, 6 pm; duration 1 hour

Singing Day is a day-long festival for people of all ages who are curious about trying out singing. Curated by Artist in Residence Michael McCartan, Singing Day will offer free taster workshops of different styles of group singing. No previous experience of singing or reading music is necessary and everyone is welcome. Singing Day is part of the Culture Date With Dublin 8 programme.

Takes place on Saturday 9 May, 11 am; duration 4 hours
Creative Dance Adventures (adults and ages 15+)
Explore simple ways of creating dance. Join Artist in Residence Philippa Donnellan to dance together and try out creating choreography inspired by artwork, poetry and music. No previous dance experience is needed to take part.
Takes place on Tuesdays 12 May to 2 June, 6 pm; duration 90 minutes
Practical Repair Skills for Clothes (adults and ages 15+)
Looking to fix a much-loved piece of clothing? Or have you picked up something second hand that needs some TLC? Join Rainie from Change Clothes to learn the skills you need to repair your clothes. Each week will focus on a different skill so you can book to come to one workshop or as many as you like.
Takes place on Wednesdays 13 May to 3 June, 6.30 pm; duration 90 minutes

Drawing Day: Drawing with Nature Family Workshop (all ages)
Celebrate Drawing Day by exploring different ways to draw and make marks with nature. Join artist and illustrator Enagh Farrell to experiment with drawing with branches, reeds, leaves, grass and found objects. Let nature be your paintbrush!
Takes place on Saturday 16 May, 12 pm, duration 1 hour
Writers Circle (adults and ages 15+)
The Writers Circle is for anyone who has taken part in previous creative writing workshops in the Culture Connects programme. Facilitated by Artist in Residence Trudie Gorman, the Writers Circle is a monthly meet-up that encourages people to continue writing and sharing their work. Get feedback and encouragement for your writing and connect with others through a shared interest.
Takes place on Wednesday 20 May, 6.30 pm; duration 2 hours
Online Book Club (adults and ages 15+)
The Culture Connects online book club meets via Zoom on the last Thursday of the month. We talk about the month’s book, swap book recommendations and have a chat. Books we read and discuss together include both fiction and non-fiction by Irish and international authors.
Takes place on Thursday 28 May, 8 pm; duration 1 hour
We want to open up ways for people to experiment with all kinds of culture. Culture Connects is our year-round programme that invites people in Dublin to try out new things. We offer ways for people to make and create together, to share ideas and connect through culture and conversation.
