We will announce our summer programme of camps and workshops for children and young people in May. Bookings for these workshops will open on Friday 9 May.
Creative Drama for Beginners (adults and ages 15+)
Try out acting and express yourself creatively through drama. Join theatre maker and drama teacher Carmel Rooney for these beginner-friendly drama workshops. Learn acting techniques, improvisation, and storytelling. Each week will start with a physical relaxation exercise and vocal warm-ups. Then take part in creative theatre games and group improvisation.
Takes place on Wednesdays 3 June to 8 July, 6 pm; duration 2 hours

Introduction to Making (adults and ages 15+)
Learn electronics and technology skills. Join facilitator Aidan Fitzmaurice to learn simple skills like soldering and creating electronic circuits to complete easy projects. Each week will focus on a different project so you can book to come to one workshop or as many as you like. This will be an introduction to the world of making for absolute beginners.

Talk at the Mess: Seán Lemass: The Lost Memoir with Ronan McGreevy (all ages)
Talks at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present.
Regarded by many as Ireland’s most admired Taoiseach, Seán Lemass never left any papers or an autobiography. Instead he gave 22 hours of interviews to an Irish businessman, Dermot Ryan, in 1967 and 1968. The transcripts reveal the tensions in his relationship with long standing Taoiseach Éamon de Valera, his disdain for the IRA, his complicated relationship with Great Britain and much more. Join historian and journalist Ronan McGreevy to learn more about this fascinating life.

Poetry Yoga (adults and ages 15+)
Stretch your body and your creativity this summer. Join poet, writer and yoga teacher Trudie Gorman for Poetry Yoga. Try out gentle poses, accompanied by original poetry to guide you deeper into each pose and allow space for reflection. You will also have the opportunity to do some writing of your own with Trudie guiding you through poetry and journaling prompts in response to your experiences in the session.
These workshops are suitable for beginners in both yoga and writing! Each workshop will cover something different so you can book to come to one or as many as you like.

Chime in and Play: Music and Movement (ages 18 months to 5 years)
Chime in and Play is a weekly music and movement workshop for children and their grown ups. Join Artist in Residence Shane McGrath to explore different music styles, and to play, sing and move!

Saturday Craft Social at the National Gallery of Ireland (adults and ages 15+)
For this month's Saturday Craft Social join Artist in Residence Niki Collier for a visit to the National Gallery of Ireland. Explore how textiles and textile making are depicted by different artists and take inspiration for your own projects.
Please note that this workshop will take place at the National Gallery of Ireland, Merrion Square West, Dublin 2. We will send you details of where to meet before the workshop.

A History of Housing in Dublin (all ages)
Have you ever wanted to find out more about the history of housing in our capital city? This series of talks by historian Donal Fallon will explore the social and architectural history of housing in Dublin.
Each talk will aim to answer questions such as: Where did Dublin's tenements come from? What were the first suburbs of Dublin? By examining key characters like the City Architects George Simms and Daithí P. Hanley, Donal will discuss how housing in the inner-city and suburbia has changed over the decades. You can book to come to one of the talks or as many as you like.

Dance Delights (adults and ages 15+)
Try out different dance styles. Join Artists in Residence Philippa Donnellan and Mia DiChiaro and discover new ways to move your body to music. No prior experience of dance is needed and you can move at your own pace. You can book to come to one workshop or as many as you like.

Writers Circle (adults and ages 15+)
The Writers Circle is for anyone who has taken part in previous creative writing workshops in the Culture Connects programme. Facilitated by Artist in Residence Trudie Gorman, the Writers Circle is a monthly meet-up that encourages people to continue writing and sharing their work. Get feedback and encouragement for your writing and connect with others through a shared interest.

Little Gardeners (ages 1 to 5)
Little Gardeners is a workshop for babies, toddlers and young children aged 5 and under and their parent or carer. Let’s explore the Richmond Barracks garden and its biodiversity together!
Join Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams to learn about different ways to encourage biodiversity and take part in some gardening in an environmentally-aware way. No experience is necessary, just come and join in.

Online Book Club: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (adults and ages 15+)
A nineteenth-century boy from a Mississippi River town, Huck escapes from his drunken, abusive father with runaway slave Jim. Here starts a series of adventures that draw him to feuding families and the trickery of con artists. But beneath these exploits are the more serious undercurrents of slavery, adult control and Huck's struggles with the corrupt values of society which threaten his deep and enduring friendship with Jim.

The Culture Connects online book club meets via Zoom on the last Thursday of the month. We talk about the month’s book, swap book recommendations and have a chat. Once you register to take part you will be emailed the link to join on Zoom.

Seed Swap and Community Garden Meet-up (all ages)
Join Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams for a seed swap and community garden meet-up. We will be swapping seeds, plants and extra produce from the garden, sharing gardening tips, talking about gardening, drinking tea and spending time in the garden together. This meet-up is for people who are interested in getting involved in the community garden, people who are already involved, or anyone interested in gardening - everyone is welcome! You can bring any seeds, plants or produce you want to share or just bring yourself!
Takes place on Thursday 25 June, 12.30 pm. Arrive or leave any time between 12.30 pm and 2 pm.
