Join us in the heart of Inchicore at Richmond Barracks for our Summer Solstice Fair on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June from 11 am to 5 pm.
The Summer Solstice Fair celebrates creativity and sustainability with a focus on upcycling, recycling and reusing.
There will be free creative and cultural workshops for all ages. Seasonal crafts and products will be available to buy along with a variety of food and drink to enjoy. Inchicore Library will be open on both days.
Admission to the Fair is free. The building is accessible, with safe parking for bikes and for buggies. Find directions here. The Fair is family friendly and dogs are welcome.

Join Artist in Residence Shannon Jade Wilson to create your own sun symbol charms and learn about the traditions of the summer solstice.

Take part in a drumming workshop as part of the Big Bang Festival of Rhythm. The workshop will start with warm ups and technique tips. It will concentrate on the rhythms of the Mandingue people of West Africa, rhythms made for the popular hand drum, the djembe and the less well known accompanying dun duns. Beginners and improvers are welcome. Drums will be provided or you can bring your own.

Take part in a West African Dance workshop as part of the Big Bang Festival of Rhythm. Curated by Catherine Young Dance, the workshop is accompanied by live drumming. Bring water and dress to sweat!
This workshop will take place in the Richmond Barracks garden, either outdoors on the grass, or in wet weather, under the tent. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Water is available for free at the water machine in the corridor, please bring your own bottle or cup.

Join us for a rendition of Oscar Wilde's children's story 'The Selfish Giant' told through shadow theatre techniques, storytelling and music. The story has been adapted, composed and performed by Carmen Merina of Glowing Bug Puppet Theatre and our Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams. The performance will include an exploration of Native Irish trees and plants in the Richmond Barracks garden.
This is a drop-in event in the garden. No booking is required.

Every Saturday from June to September we have fantastic local tours that highlight the area’s lesser known history. Tours must be booked in advance.
You can join a tour of Goldenbridge Cemetery, Ireland’s first garden cemetery, founded by ‘The Liberator’ Daniel O’Connell almost 200 years ago. You’ll hear about the vaults, the armed guards, the Cuban bloodhounds, the body snatchers and the people buried within the graveyard’s walls. The tour departs from Richmond Barracks and lasts approximately one hour and 15 minutes.

You can walk in the footsteps of the 1916 leaders on our Richmond Barracks to Kilmainham Gaol tour. You’ll hear of local poets and poetry, sporting heroes, art and architecture, and other treasures hidden in plain sight. The tour departs from Richmond Barracks and lasts approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
