Summer in Richmond Barracks
Richmond Barracks is a hive of activity this summer with bees and people alike taking advantage of the bursts of good weather. It’s a great time to get outdoors, and we have a variety of activities taking place in our garden and in the local area. You can take a look at some of our summer highlights on our website.
In an effort to re-wild and support biodiversity, our Eco-gardener in Residence, Polly, has left many of the grassy areas to grow long. The result has been amazing to see. Our carpet of wildflowers is bringing lots of welcome visitors, like the large white butterflies who started life as caterpillars on the cabbages in our community garden.
Come and experience this for yourself; walk the labyrinth which has been carefully mown into the wild meadow on the lawn or take a seat and have a moment of calm.
The garden will be filled with music and dance as the Big Bang Festival of Rhythm joins us this summer. Come along and try your hand at African Drumming or have fun learning West African Dance. These workshops take place on Saturdays from 19 July to 23 August. Find out more about the Big Bang Festival of Rhythm on their website.
You can discover the lesser known treasures of Inchicore and Kilmainham by joining us on a Walking Tour from Richmond Barracks to Kilmainham Gaol. The tour is suitable for all ages.
If you would like to learn a new skill, you can join our Ukulele workshops on Wednesday evenings, or you can find out how to bring your clothes back to life at Sustainable Saturdays: Clothing Repair Café. We also have nature-themed activities where you can learn to Make Your Own Terrarium or a Nature-themed Mobile.
To discover local stories from Ireland's revolutionary period, come along to our series of talks ‘Local and National: The Irish Revolution, 1913 to 1923’ led by historian Donal Fallon.
Some of our workshops open for booking a month before they take place. You can see the booking dates at the end of this page.
